Kenneth Reid Architects have just won Planning Permission for an ecological friendly house, in the Southwest of Scotland.
The existing gamekeepers cottage and stone built kennels will be replaced by a highly insulated new house, that will incorporate a modern “Becowallform” system for the walls, and an Earth and Sedum covered roof and, where possible, recycled materials throughout.
The design also incorporates a large south facing conservatory that attracts heat build-up and utilising an integrated heat-recover system, which then is used to heat the house through full under-floor heating.
The Planning permission includes re-housing the existing “Pipestrelle” bat colony currently nesting in the existing gamekeepers cottage roof, into a purpose built and replicated “workshop” unit on the site. Work has begun on site soon for a completion early 2010.
