The accommodation, principally to serve the  nearby King's Buildings campus of the Unviersity of Edinburgh, was crafted into a historic corner site.  Key challenges included the dramatic topography, the prominent nature of the corner site and its historical background.  In the centre of the triangular site were two B Listed cottages, which were preserved, enhanced and given prominence as the main entrance to the development.  This  anchored the development around which the three uniquely designed blocks were arranged.  The three blocks were linked by a common palette of materials and by elevated sedum planted podium decks which gave connections through the blocks through to the listed cottages.
