Lanark Road, Edinburgh

The site is on the main Lanark Road heading out of town to the West. It currently contains a mixed use industrial site that operates a skip hire and second hand car sales along with vehicle servicing workshops.

The development is located adjacent to the Water of Leith Wildlife Corridor. It has part of the site in the greenbelt, has potential flooding issues from the Water of Leith and has adjacent Listed Buildings.

After extensive dialogue with the Planning Authority and Bridge and Structures Department within the Council, KRA have responded to the challenges within and outwith the site and completed a firmly modern design for a residential development comprising a series of Townhouses, apartments and maisonettes, on site surface car parking, garaging and quality amenity space.

KRA met the challenges head on and have overcome the difficulties with an imaginative solution that is reminiscent of the old Mill buildings that once stood on the site.

The blend of traditional detailing and modern use of materials, such as zinc and red brick have combined to provide a form of buildings that provide a gateway solution that fits into its setting remarkably well and will add to the townscape whilst entering and leaving the City of Edinburgh.
